Good burgs

From Local Bird . Was very busy and got served in 20mins. The double smash burger (Local Shack) was a really good straight up hamburger, the cheese sauce was an unexpected bonus. The spicy chicken (Spicy Bird Burger) was cooked well, had really crunchy crumbing, it was actually spicy. Positives all round and I will be going back.

Things I ate March #1

Hungry Jacks GRILL MASTERS SPICY CHIPOTLE ANGUS.
Eh, this was ok, pretty minimal burger, the battered and fried jalapenos were a nice touch. LOOKS LIKE CRAP!

Charcoal Chicken Place Tuart Hill – 1/2 Spicy Chicken and 1/2 Ribs & chips.
This was good, probably not as hot and fresh as from Dianella which has such insane turn-over, but still really good.

RoyAl’s Chicken & Burgers

Went to the one in Northbridge. Situated on a side street it has a small interior, just a few seats and a kitchen area but casual bench seating outside.

I got the Chicken Royal burger (buttermilk fried chicken, fancy sauce, remoulade sauce, lettuce and tomato) and 4x of the Buttermilk fried thigh pieces dirty style (coated in hot sauce, these also came with a jalapeno blue cheese dipping sauce.)

The burger was very nice, the Fancy sauce was excellent and there wasa hint of mustard possibly from the remoulade sauce, the chicken tender juicy and crispy, enough salad, toasted bun. And $12 is decent these days.

The 4x pieces of buttermilk fried chicken thigh that had been dipped in hot sauce (aka dirty style) was nice too, chicken the same quality as in the burger, definitely coated in hot sauce so not as crispy, it was like Franks or such, not too vinegary and also not overly hot. These were $10 and I actually got 5 pieces for whatever reason. The jalapeno blue cheese dipping sauce was very excellent.

So $22 all up for a lot of nice chicken. Well worth it.

Notes on sauce: Fancy sauce, also known as Fry sauce is usually a combination of one part tomato ketchup and two parts mayonnaise, with many variations which add additional ingredients to the basic recipe. Remoulade sauce is an aioli/mayonnaise based sauce similar to tartare with sometimes mustard or curry or chopped pickles added and also existing in many many variations.

Burger 101

Burger 101 is a burger place thats opened up at my local shopping centre. Its a chain I believe, there is at least one more in Perth.

Its…pretty good. I had the Double Cheeseburger, it had 2 thick, nicely cooked burger patties, a good sauce, more than enough cheese and also lettuce , tomato, pickles. Would go there again, they had a fair range of different burgers on the menu.

quattro formaggi burger – mozzarella, gorgonzola, parmesan, stracchino with a thicc sugo, basil, beef.

pretty good.

McRib!

EDIT – I have had another Mc Rib and the review from 10/12/2020 is HERE

Yeah, the McRib, its back and I finally had one (2 actually). I’m sure at some point in its existence it was slightly more than what it is today, though probably not too much more. Like most burgers, the exception being HJ’s The Whopper, fast food burgers have become smaller and more barren in content.

The McRib is essentially a standard McDonalds or Hungry Jacks Cheeseburger, minus the mustard, with a meat patty that is 2 or so times more dense or compressed than normal, and pressed into a weird “rib” shape, and smothered in a thick and slightly spicy BBQ sauce. The bun is also longer.

It was moderate at best. The sauce was pretty nice.

Burgers

‘burg

Had a few burgers recently after hearing about one new burger place, then another, and another…

Hoodburger

Old Shanghai Food Court, James Street, Northbridge. (FB page)

This was the first one I heard about. I got their Double Cheeseburger. Its was very damn good but also it was too much meat.

I went their again a few days later and tried their normal Cheeseburger with added garlic and pickles and chilli peppers.. This was far superior due to it being far less dense with meat, and the addition of pickles, and the chilli peppers were rather hot.

Short Order Burger

800 Hay Street, Perth (menu)

Found out about these guys today and visited after work. Got their Fried Chicken Burger and Fiery Short Order Burger. Chicken burger was great and the Fiery Short Order burger was very good but not as good as Hoodburgers Cheeseburger.
